They go through metal detectors and m detectors that can see exactly what is in turbans. In some cases, though, you may be escorted into a closed room and asked to remove your turban for an inspection. TSA does their best to make this as less invasive as possible. I believe you have the option to opt out and leave the checkpoint of you have not been charged with anything at this point.
