Tonsillectomy and smoking?

i really dont need to be told not to smoke, im not majorly addicted or anything i just need one sometimes,so this isnt my chance to quit. i had a tonsillectomy on 11/21, and i went for my check up today. the doc said everything was healing well and i didnt need to come back anymore. so i was wondering, would it be okay to smoke a cig now, or do i need to wait longer?
