Which is better, the AMD Phenom X4 9950 @ 2.66ghz, or the Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 @ 2.8ghz?

I'm not looking for processors for gaming. Im just looking for a nice, fast processing computer. I do use graphical programs sometimes. Either choice will be paired with 4gb of RAM. I would think a "quad core" would be better, but I dont know much about the inner workings of computers...
