Do kids nowadays realize that "huffing" instantly kills brain cells and is detrimental to their future

This has been going on for years I remember back when I was in JH this girl who was a clmates older sister (14) was sniffing air plane glue. It damaged her brain so bad she had the mental capacity of a 3 year old. Kids don't think this will ever happen to them.
