Metropolitan Museum of Art by far. The Museum of the City of New York is a small, and fun, local museum that has exhibits based on local history. The Met is one of the great collections in the world, and is deep in almost any area you can think of. If you have time consider the Frick Collection, a few blocks from the Met, its a great small museum that is one of the gems of the world.
